Terry Pratchett will be at the American Library Association Conference later this month. I'll be there. You may all commence being jealous now :)

PS - anyone else going to be at ALA in New Orleans?
gwynhefar: (Default)
Generally, the ARCs at ALA are free to pick up in the exhibit hall, but you have to ship them back yourself. Occasionally, though, a wonderful publisher will actually allow you to mark the ones you want out of their catalog and *send them to you*. This takes longer, but hey - less weight to carry around, and no shipping costs to you.

Thus, I give you a few addenda to the official ALA haul:

62. Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, Beautiful Darkness

63. Gail Giles, Dark Song

64. Lisi Harrison, Monster High

65. April Lindner, Jane

66. Cate Tiernan, Immortal Beloved (Immortal Beloved (Cloth - Trilogy))

67. Daisy Whitney, The Mockingbirds

68. Allen Williams, The Witches' Kitchen

Then there's the following books that the incredible Sharyn November sent me for helping her find a slightly obscure article:

Catherine Fisher, Incarceron (Incarceron, Book 1)

Teri Hall, The Line

Dandi Daley Mackall, My Boyfriends' Dogs

Robin Palmer, Little Miss Red

Personally, I think four free books is a bit of an overpayment for one article, but I'm hardly going to complain.

It's been a really good summer for books!

ALA Haul

Yes, it's that time of year again. The annual (or biannual, depending) American Library Association (*cough* free book giveaway *cough*) Conference.

My haul this year is as follows: )

I also seem to have ended up with extra copies of The Spirit Thief and Trackers. These are up for grabs if you want them. Likewise if there's something on this list you'd like let me know and I consider it. Of course, you will have pry my copy of Pegasus out of my cold dead fingers, likewise with the De Lint, Holly Black, and the signed Smith-Readys. But most of the others I'd be willing to give up once I've read them.
gwynhefar: (Default)
Another publisher came through with the books I requested. So here's another addition to the list:

39. Mary Jane Beaufrand, The River
40. Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl, Beautiful Creatures
41. Simon Holt, The Devouring Book 2: Soulstice
42. Melinda Lo, Ash
gwynhefar: (Default)
So one of the publishers I asked to send me galleys came through. Therefore, I now add to my ALA haul the following:

35. Janet Lee Carey, Stealing Death
36. Glenn Dakin, Candle Man Book One: The Society of Unrelenting Vigilance
37. Victoria Hanley, Violet Wings
38. Mike Wilks, Mirrorscape

ALA Haul

My haul this year is significantly smaller than in previous years for two reasons.

1) I was much more selective in what I took since I *do* have to pay shipping to send it home. In previous years, this has cost me between $40-$50, which I tend to consider a small price to pay for nearly 200 books. But this year, I didn't really want to spend that much, so I took less and kept my shipping to around $25.

2) The vendors were much more stingy this year. The economy's hurting us all, I suppose, and the vendors brought fewer books to give away and fewer copies of the ones they did give out (they have to pay shipping too, I guess). There were several vendors who, rather than bringing ARCs to hand out, brought one or two copies of their offerings and allowed you to sign up to have them sent to you. So I'll be getting a few more in the mail eventually, hopefully. These are just the ones I picked up and sent back to myself.

So without further ado, the list:

Ok, so I'm back. And because I just can't help myself, immediately following will be the first part of my ALA Haul, the stuff I brought back with me. Others will be added as the boxes arrive.

For those who are new, I've just returned from an American Library Association Conference, which, in addition to all the professional development stuff and committee meetings, boasts a rather large selection of free ARCs (Advanced Reader's Copies). Most of these books are not out yet. Feel free to drool with envy.
