Moonlight

Am I the only person who just discovered CBS's "Moonlight"? Where was the advertising for this show? I *love* it. I've loved Sophia Myles since I first saw her on an episode of Doctor Who, so I was thrilled to see her get a major part in a tv series (can you say 'eye candy'?). And Jason Dohring from Veronica Mars as a 400-year-old playboy vampire? Brilliant! The main guy isn't bad either. And it's *Vampires*. And crime drama. Two things I love together. The parallels to Forever Knight are obvious, but in some ways I almost enjoy Moonlight better. Forever Knight was brilliant tv, but it had a tendency to be so dark and brooding as to be sickening. Moonlight has much more humour and a lot less guilt. Please, please, *please* let it get renewed.

Um, tons of advertising up here.

And you probably don't want my opinion of the show. :-)

Yeah, I imagine it doesn't meet up with your exacting standards :) My standards are somewhat lower, as I've been told before. It doesn't take much to keep me happy :)

Oh, I love trashy TV. Just not when it's not meant to be. I can see potential in the show, but the guy doesn't even change his identity after 80+ years? Sloppy. Nearly as sloppy as how the vampires in 30 Days of Night feed.

Doesn't mean I don't watch it if I'm home.

[identity profile] gwynraven.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. Sloppy But then Duncan MacLeod didn't change his identity for 400+ years, and that was still a good show for the first couple of seasons at least :)

I've just decided to ignore the plot holes and enjoy the Hollywood vampiness, plucky gorgeous eye candy side-kick, and Jason Dohring.

Hey, she's David Tennant's real-life girlfriend -- or she was, at least, as of this summer. Cool! I'd not heard of this show on this side of the pond, so it's something to look forward to.

Growl. When I try to download the eps from the website, I get 'this content is currently unavailable'. I'm assuming it's because I'm outside of the US.

[identity profile] gwynraven.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably. I've come across that problem in reverse trying to get eps from British websites. I should warn you that some of my more selective friends apparently have problems with the show. I enjoy it. But then again, I enjoyed Jericho.

There was a little too much "I'm a Vampire" shit for me..

It was like "I just got out of the bathroom after a terrific BM.. oh.. and BTW.. I'm a Vampire"

Feh

I'll stick to Reaper

[identity profile] gwynraven.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but at least it's not "I'm a vampire and therefore I am the most evil thing to ever walk the earth". So far I haven't seen any "let's track down this killer, oh and by the way, you do remember that I'm evil and don't deserve to live, right? Just checking. I'll check again in 10 minutes, just in case you might have mistakenly gotten the impression that I'm a decent person in the meantime."

Then again, as has been said before. I *like* cheese. There's no point to a vampire cop show if we're not reminded at least 3-4 times an episode that the cop/PI is a vampire. Otherwise, it's just another cop show.

[identity profile] tarpo.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Forever Knight was a better Vampire Cop show.. thats all i'm sayin'

(Anonymous) 2007-11-01 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is. I didn't say Moonlight was better, I said I enjoyed it more. There's a subtle difference. I forgot that most of my friends don't have the tolerance for good cheese. *le sigh*

[identity profile] gwynraven.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
And that would be me, forgetting to log in. Mea culpa.

[identity profile] tarpo.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
now don't be hasty! I have plenty of appreication for cheese.. good, bad, or other. I just don't find the show scratches my itch..

[identity profile] gwynraven.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah well. We can't all have such refined caseous taste. :)

I watch it when it has no competition if only to see if he'll
survive the current episode. Not the brightest vampire i've
ever seen. One wonders how he lasted a hundred years ;p
The girl, Sophia is attractive though :)

[identity profile] gwynraven.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer to believe that his general common sense is being muddled by his proximity to his extremely attractive partner :) And I did say he was actually my least favourite character :)

We've Tivod every episode of it, but I haven't watched it yet. I've heard good things, though.

Well be warned, as evidenced by the other posts in this thread, I seem to be the only person with an appreciation for good cheese. I suppose I should add a caveat to my glowing review. It's cheese. Fun cheese, but definitely cheese nonetheless. You could drive a dumptruck through some of the plot holes. But it's got an incredibly attractive and plucky female character, Jason Dohring doing his best wise old oracle impression, and Hollywood vampires. As far as I'm concerned, what's a few plot holes and occasional main character stupidity compared to that?

[identity profile] e-scapism101.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I do watch it, sort of. Moonlight isn't great, but it is on after Ghost Whisperer, which is my guilty pleasure show. Josef isn't Logan in the damaged/crazy/hot department, but he'll do.

[identity profile] gwynraven.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Josef. I like the dichotomy of 400+ years looking like a 19-year-old. And so far we really haven't seen that much of him. I have high hopes for them doing more with him as a character.

I watch Ghost Whisperer too, although I'm a season behind.
