Update (long)
Aug. 20th, 2004 02:51 pmMonday-Tuesday -- Atlanta with
shadesong and company. Absolutely wonderful. Saw
dark_blade and
ryokan and met
enchant. Lounged around, watched Olympics, read Terry Pratchett, and overall had a wonderful mini-vacation.
Wednesday -- Drive back to Columbia and training at the School of Medicine (hereafter referred to as SOM) library. I'm really looking forward to working there. It will be almost entirely nights and weekends on my own and they're *very* relaxed there. Allison (my boss) said to make sure and bring plenty of classwork in with me, since that's probably what I'll be doing most of the time, and that I'm free to eat at the desk and casually mentioned that there are even pizza places that will deliver directly to the library. I think I'm going to love this job.
Thursday -- First day of classes. Everything that could go wrong that morning did. Accidently set my alarm for an hour later than I had planned to get up, so when it went off I had exactly half an hour to be sitting in class. Then the route I usually take to campus was closed due to construction and I had to take a detour in horrible traffic. Not to mention the damn campus jaywalkers that would walk out in front of cars even when the light was green such that I had to sit through the same light 3 times before I could finally get through. Then I had to spend almost 20 minutes looking for a parking space. So I was 15 minutes late to my first class. Wonderful first impression that made. Oh, and since the parking space I finally found and took in desperation had a meter with a limit far short of when my classes were actually over, I got two parking tickets by the time I got back.
That said, the classes themselves were wonderful and I'm really looking forward to the readings. And I got to go out for dinner with
harkalark who was in town. So it was not a bad day overall.
