50bookchallenge, 15000pages
Jan. 8th, 2006 01:57 pmBook#3 -- Jens Peter Jacobsen, Mogens, and Other Stories, 150 pages.
Rilke listed this book as "indespensible" in Letters to a Young Poet, so of course I had to fish it out of the library basement (it was in compact storage). I don't know why people don't talk about Jacobsen more -- the stories are incredible! Very much in the style of Rilke and the turn-of-the-century (1900s) modernists. Jacobsen's characters are vividly drawn, and his stories are full of great emotion. Definitely recommended.
