So Fiona and Finnegan were wrestling earlier. They do this a lot -- I think all kittens do. Fiona was backed into a corner but successfully driving off all of Finnegan's sorties. Then I saw the most amazing thing. Finnegan's body language completely changed. He crouched down to put himself below Fiona, who was sitting up, ears back and teeth bared. His ears came forward, his face relaxed, and he looked up at her all conciliatory. In fact everything about his body language showed that he was done fighting and ready to be friends again. All except his twitching tail, which I'm sure Fiona couldn't see from her angle. He inched forward, still all friendly like, and I saw Fiona start to relax her guard. And then *WHAM*, he pounces on her, pins her down, and grabs the skin of her neck in his teeth right at the jugular. Then he let her go and bounced away all pleased with himself. Point, match, and set to Finnegan. I have never seen a cat dissemble like that. Fiona might generally be the dominant one, but Finnegan definitely has the brains in the family.

Book #67 -- Laurie R. King, The Moor, 369 pages.

This is the next book in a series I had read for awhile, then forgotten. The further adventures of Sherlock Holmes and his wife. Wait! I know what you're thinking. But really, they're quite good. King's Holmes is more like Conan Doyle's Holmes than any other Holmes I've seen, and his wife Mary is a thoroughly likeable character, and a perfect match for Holmes. This book in particular was fun, as it involved a return to Dartmoor, the land of Baskerville fame. There are, I believe, two more? books in the series so far, and I'm looking forward to catching up.
