Book #74 -- Frank Mosca, All-American Boys, 116 pages.

Neil was deep in the closet until he met Paul, who gave him the courage to stand up and be himself. But life isn’t easy, and soon they have to deal with bad parental reactions, and a brutal gay-bashing.

Another one for the project. Boy am I glad they're mostly all so short. This one was a big story for such a little book, but despite that it didn't feel rushed. It was sweet but serious and well-written.

Blah

Ok, today is blah and sucks. I'm tired but no longer sleepy. My back hurts and no position or medication I try can make it comfortable. And I'm bored but don't want to do anything. I don't want to watch TV, I don't want to read, I don't want to play video games, I don't want to go out (not that I'm really up for going out anyway). I'm hungry but I don't want to eat anything in the house. I'm lonely but I don't want to talk to anyone. In short, I'm exceedingly contrary.

Book #75 -- Janet Taylor Lisle, The Lost Flower Children, 122 pages.

It's rare for me to find a modern book that has the genuine spirit of a fairy tale the way this one does. I don't mean that it's written in archaic language or set Once Upon a Time, but that it has the same blend of deceptive simplicity and hidden depth that I associate with folk and fairy tales. Not to mention a fine moral and just enough of the magical.
