Personally I am of the opinion that if the satellite imagery shows a hurricane on top of you you shouldn't have to go into work, whatever the actual conditions outside happen to be.

Yes, the eastern edge of Humberto is on top of us right now. No, it's not really dangerous. Just wet. Very wet. The perfect day to stay home with some tea and a blanket and a book. Unfortunately, I have a class to teach at noon, so I couldn't take the day off.

Which is a shame, because I *really* wanted to. Pain bad today. Sleep mostly non-existent, and when I did sleep, there were nerve-wracking dreams. Including one in which I was the main character in a Zelda-like old video game. And let me tell you, the 8-bit monsters are actually pretty scary close-up. And having the ground disappear out from under you is not a pleasant experience.

So I'm tired, and cranky, and I don't want to teach, and it's rainy outside and I want to be curled up in bed with a book that isn't related to my job. How's your day?

One of the dangers of working in a major research library is that you actually find yourself loosing that awe that comes with old books. I've become snobbish -- the book I was working on today was *only* published in 1881. That's nothing. Yesterday I worked on one published in 1830.

Book #105 -- Sue Limb, Girl, (Nearly) 16, Absolute Torture, 216 pages.

Jess Jordan *was* going to spend the summer luxuriating in her new boyfriend. Instead, her mother announced plans for a last minute road trip. The only redeeming quality of this holiday is that she'll get to see her father for the first time in months. Jess is determined to find out exactly why her parents split up, but the answer isn't at all what she expected.

This was hilarious. I don't remember the last time I giggled so much at a book. I must now immediately go check out the first book in the series (and grieve that I had to read them out of order).
