Book #117 -- Perry Moore, Hero, 428 pages.

In a world where superheroes exist, Thom's father was one of the best. That is until he failed to save a building full of people. Disfigured and in disgrace, he now works in a factory, famous only as a failure. Thom has his own problems -- he's sick of being known only as the son of a pariah, but he's even more afraid of what people will say if they find out he's gay, and that he's developing superpowers of his own. Can Thom break out from under the shadow of his father's history and have the courage to become his own hero?

I only have one word for this one -- WONDERFUL. Really. It's *so* good. Read it. Now.

Book #118 -- David Wellington, 13 Bullets, 323 pages.

This is a very different vampire book from the kind I usually read. It was good . . but not really my style. I prefer my vampires dark and mysterious and sexy, not hairless animalistic shark-toothed monsters. It was definitely an exciting book, but then it just ended right after the climax -- no real conclusion to tie up the loose ends and give you an idea of how the main characters were going to get on with their lives after the events of the book.

How is it that I'm only now reading about this. After randomly browsing the web. Why wasn't there some big commotion when it first came out?

These people are claiming to have found the tomb of Jesus' immediate family, including the bones of Jesus, his mother Mary, Mary the Master (who they have tentatively identified as Mary Magdalene), and one inscribed "Judah, son of Jesus" whom DNA evidence suggests was also the son of Mary the Master (lending support to the theory that Mary Magdalene was Jesus' wife).

Really fascinating stuff.
