This is hilarious! I notice that it's Hurricane Freud that's headed my way. Figures.

The things you learn . . .

So I learned today that "octopi" as a plural of "octopus", while generally accepted as an alternate to "octopuses" is actually linguistically incorrect. The "i" as a plural for nouns ending in "us" is a Latin convention, and "octopus" is of Greek origin. The correct Greek plural would be "octopodes" (pronounced oc-to-po-dees, not oc-to-podes). I'm going to have to remember that, as I was taught "octopi" was correct, these many years ago, and always felt myself vaguely superior to those who used "octopuses".
