music help

So, all you music buffs out there -- I need help. I've been in a classic jazz mood, but it's not a genre I know a lot about, so I need suggestions of people to look for. I mostly like female vocalists. I've been listening to a lot of Billie Holiday and Holly Cole (who I know is modern, but her style is old school). Any suggestions?

Again with contemporary jazz vocalists with old-school styles I've been digging on Madeleine Peyroux and Jane Monheit lately. I can send you a couple samples, if you like. :)

There you go, miss. I hope you enjoy them. :)

Thank you very much! Just a question -- which are which? They're not labelled with artist, just title.

That's problematic. "Don't Cry Baby" and "Weary Blues" are by Madeleine Peyroux; "Why Can't You Behave?" and "In the Still of the Night" are by Jane Monheit; and "Hang on Little Tomato" is by Pink Martini.

Thanks. I can relabel them easily enough :)

Yes, yes, yes on both counts. In addition, allow me to suggest something non-vocal: the album Solo Monk by Thelonious Monk, one of my favorites. Just the man and his piano.

louis armstrong and ella fitzgerald. You can't get more classic than that :)

True enough :) They're already on my list.

Nina Simone, for that one step forward from the classic line-up...
