I just saw Pirates 3, finally. I've heard people say they were disappointed by this one, but I have no idea why. I loved it. And I laughed and cried several times. A few notes, under a spoiler tag for those who haven't seen it.
* Perhaps I'm odd but I liked Jack in this one better than in all the others. He was funnier, and even more insanely brilliant (emphasis on the insane).
* Nice to see Norrington *finally* pick a side.
* While all the who betrayed who got dizzying, I actually liked the fact that for the most part, all the main characters accepted that everyone had their own agenda and alliances were apt to shift at any time. Particularly Jack and Will. They made a big show of claiming to hate each other when they were on opposite sides, but they fell back in pretty quickly when they were on the same side.
* I loved that the pirate fleet used historical Jolly Rogers. I recognised Blackbeard's and I think Jack Rakham's (is it sad that I knew that?).
* The whole British armada turned tail and ran just because their flagship was destroyed? That seems a little unlikely to me. They clearly had them beat several times over again numbers-wise.
* Is it *really* too much to ask for the conventional happy ending? I mean, let's look at this. Elisabeth's mortal. One day every 10 years. Assuming she's about 20, that means they have no more than 4 decent days left and maybe one or two rather sad ones after that. *Less than a week* all told. That's simply not fair. I know it was supposed to be all romantic and stuff that they were willing to wait all those years for that one perfect day, but I don't like it. Although what Jack did for Will, giving him his chance at immortality, that was incredible.
* The little bit at the end, with the aqua vitae? Do you think that means there will be another sequel?
