GPS devices

Ok, so for some reason my grandparents have decided to buy me a GPS unit for my car. I have previously indicated that I wanted one but couldn't afford it, but that was awhile ago, so I don't know what inspired this generosity but I'm not going to question it. Apparently after looking at the options they decided that the best course of action would be to let me decide what model I wanted and just have them send me a check to cover it.

So . . . Anyone have any experience with these? What should I look for/make sure to avoid? Any specific recommendations?

The Magellan Neverlost system is the only one I'm familiar with (had it in a couple of different rental cars over the years), and it seems decent enough.

Avoid the type we had in Germany that kept telling us to drive way south towards Hannover on the autobahn rather than heading north towards Koln, even though our destination was north towards Koln. It kept trying to get us to exit the motorway and turn around as we progressed north. Finally, when we left at the correct exit (due to our map and written directions), it re-adjusted itself and worked fine. But at first, it kept sending up the opposite way! ;)

Sorry -- can't help. ;)
