The parking situation here sucks! I came in late today because I'm not feeling well - would have taken the whole day off but I've got a class to teach this afternoon. Anyway, I spent a *full HOUR* circling the campus trying to find a parking space. And this is the parking that I *pay for* to the tune about about $15 a month. Not a huge amount, true, but *still*. I should not be paying for the privilege of circling the campus *where I work* for an hour wasting gas to find someplace to park. Grrr!

We don't have to pay to park, but if we're not there early we won't get a space. Even if I don't teach first period, I need to arrive before first period to get a parking space. We can try to park in the student car park (where they do pay £60 a year to park), but it's a horrible car park (the kids risk their suspension when they drive around in it; it's like what I'd imagine driving on moon rocks would be like), and it fills up quickly when students and staff are trying to park there. The kids are angry that they pay and can't get a space.

Some days, though, the college will have cordoned off 20-40 spaces in the staff car parks for visitors. *sigh* It really makes us feel as if visitors are more valued than staff and students.

I could take the train, but it costs more than driving! I've suggested the college should get us rail discounts...

Baton Rouge has a truly horrendous public transport system, otherwise I'd definitely use that. I'd love to live somewhere where I could take a metro to work. Less hassle, and more time to read! :)

Well, it's a ten-minute walk to the train locally, which is fine except when it's pouring rain and I'm laden down with books and marking. :) But I'd be willing to take the train if it didn't cost so much! It's very expensive considering it's only a four-mile one-way trip; driving is much cheaper. :(
