The rules:
Step One
- Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friends friends, or just random journals, or [info]holiday_wishes/[info]wish_list) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

#1 An academic librarian job, preferably in the Boston area -- I really want to be with family. Basic synopsis of my qualifications: a BA in English, BS in Marine Science, MA in English, MLIS in Library Science, and 5 years experience as an academic reference librarian and virtual reference coordinator. Liaison experience in the sciences and in women and gender studies. Collection development/material selection experience. Instruction experience in both traditional and online for-credit classes as well as 'one-shots' Active in ALA committees. Published research on virtual reference and computer mediated communication. Knowledge of HTML, some CSS. Expertise in web 2.0 technologies and their use in libraries. If you have any inside info or know of any universities or colleges who are hiring, please let me know!

#2 Access the Oxford English Dictionary Online -- my library cancelled our subscription due to budget cuts, and I really *really* miss it.

#3 An iPad and/or a Kindle -- truth is, I want both, for different purposes.

#4 A pair of nice leather driving gloves -- I lost my old ones.

#5 hand-knitted hats -- I love hats. I especially love knitted ones. Beanies, beret-style, you name it.

#6 a suede bomber jacket, preferably with some mileage -- I love bomber jackets. Always have. The last one I had was too cheaply made and the leather tore. Also, I like clothes with some character, so minor flaws are not only ok, they're actually preferred.

#7 Someone who can diagnose what the heck is wrong with my wireless router and/or my laptop. -- My laptop detects the signal from my wireless router. It says the signal strength is strong. It says it's connected. But then it won't actually allow me to access the internet. The internet connection and modem are fine - because my desktop works. My laptop can and does connect to other networks just fine. Dunno what the heck's wrong.

#8 This -- Yes, I'm bizarre. I already have a raven skull necklace. I want the wolf skull to go with it.

#9 Anything off my Amazon Wishlists: here, here, and here.

#10 Shiny things! -- I'm not too picky. If it shines, I'd like it.

Ya know, I've got a pair of leather driving gloves I hardly ever use. If you measure your hand size and it's close to mine, I'll send them to you. Apparently the best way to do this is to measure your hand circumference around your knuckles.

Hi! I'm a nerd... I might be able to diagnose what's wrong with your wireless router and laptop combo. I'm betting that your router isn't running a DHCP server or giving out IP addresses. What operating system are you running on your laptop?

It's Windows XP. It's also an old laptop - about 4 years old.

Okay. Can you put it in the failure state where it says it's connected but doesn't give you Internet, and then do Start -> Run, and type

cmd

into the box to spawn a command line window? At the command prompt, type:

ipconfig /all

and paste me the output. If you could do the same on your working desktop and paste me that too (assuming the desktop is also a Windows machine), that'd be great! This will tell me if this theory is right.

Sure, I'll have to wait until I get home, but I'll pm you the results.

Is your address still the same? For some reason I seem to have an overabundance of shiny objects around here... :p

You don't say? How weird is that :)

And yes, address is the same!

I know! It's as if someone with magpie tendencies and the ability to write off shiny objects as tax deductions lived here!

Is the laptop still giving you trouble? One common reason for a wireless connection to claim it is connected but not actually work is a failure to give the router the correct security key.
