An absolutely fascinating historical novel about the building of the first walled city. I never thought before about how important such an invention could be -- as the book shows, with the building of the first wall, villages were able to defend themselves from decimation by nomadic tribes long enough to grow large enough to be considered a city. Without having to start over every time they were raided, the cities provided a stable environment for the growth of civilisation. Not nearly as dry as I've just made it sound :) Very much an action book, with a hint of romance.
Progress toward goals: 119/365 = 32.6%
Books: 30/50 = 60%
Pages: 10166/15000 = 67.8%
