Jul. 2nd, 2007 10:21 amOk, so last night I had a horrible nightmare about getting some sort of fungus on my foot and needing to have it amputated. Only when I got to the hospital none of the anaesthesia worked, and they were talking about having to do it anyway, which freaked the hell out of me. Did I mention this was my *left* foot? Of course I woke up to stabbing pains all the way down to my big toe, so no real stretch to figure out where the dream came from.

Hawk identification
Jul. 2nd, 2007 02:36 pmA question for any birders out there -- I'm trying to identify a bird I saw this morning. Unfortunately I only saw it from below, and I can't get the markings to match any of the pictures I've been able to find in the books. It was a small hawk or other raptor, about the size of a pigeon, and it was hovering in the air above the highway near a lake. The underparts were mostly white, with scattered dark markings that looked to be black, but might have been dark brown or even reddish. The wings were relatively short, and not sharply angled like a falcon. The tail was spread and rounded, and I don't remember there being any conspicuous bands or dark marks on it. There were, however, dark lines along the underside of the shoulders.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm in South Louisiana, by the way.

Yanked from
puddock who got it from others.
1. Go into the archives of your LJ.
2. Find your 42nd entry ever. Yes, this may require some counting and basic math. Deal with it.
3. Link to that entry in a new entry. This is the meaning of your life.
And doesn't it just figure. It's a post about me screwing up. Ah yes, the story of my life.

Apparently they've discovered a subspecies of wild cat that is genetically indistinguishable from the domestic cat. There's a picture here, and doesn't that just look like the tabby next door?
