Ancestor of the domestic cat found

Apparently they've discovered a subspecies of wild cat that is genetically indistinguishable from the domestic cat. There's a picture here, and doesn't that just look like the tabby next door?

So the ancestor of the cat...is the cat.

Cat-haters could take this as evidence that cats are unevolved, but cats probably think of it as not changing a winning formula.

Thousands of years ago two or three of these wildcats, sitting around, looking over some farms, talking to each other... "Hey, i think i know how we can get these odd bipeds to take care of us in luxury.
(comparative for those early cats)
Let's just go up to them and be all cute and cuddly and irresistble and chase a few mice out of their grain now and then and we've got it made."
And thus it all started ;)

Which just proves exactly how smart they were :)

In my teens I used to go grouse beating, it was a good way to walk in the hills and get paid. I spotted what I thought was a domestic moggy asleep in the heather, I could not get my head round it, a cat here in the hills in the middle of no where. So I pointed it out to the gamekeeper. He laughed and told me it was a Scottish Wild Cat. I could not get over how it looked just like a domestic cat.
