Marjan, a poor crippled servant, has always admired Shahrazad for her bravery and her strength, enduring her perilous existence to save the young women of the city from the Sultan's murderous appetite. But when Shahrazad's sister overhears Marjan telling a story she'd never heard before, Marjan is summoned to the harem to teach the story to Shahrazad, and learns that nothing is ever what it seems. Now Marjan is embroiled in a very dangerous political game, sneaking in and out of the harem to collect stories for Shahrazad, while evading the suspicions of the Kartun, the Sultan's overprotective and vindictive mother. When failure means death not only for her idol, but for all the women of the harem, can Marjan find her own bravery and strength to complete her perilous task?

50bookchallenge, 15000pages
Oct. 16th, 2007 10:54 amBook #126 -- Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling, eds., The Coyote Road: Trickster Tales, 514 pages.
A wonderful collection of short stories and poems by some of the greats in the fantasy genre. I think I liked this one best of the series, because I've always had fascination for Trickster figures. Of course my own Raven is a Trickster, so that's not surprising.
Progress: 289/365 = 79.2%
Books: 126/150 = 84%
Pages: 36496/50000 = 73.0%
