I made Róisín purr!!
She still won't come out of hiding when I'm in the room. But her favourite hiding space is under the end table, so I've been reaching my hand under there and petting her so she can try and get used to me. The first couple of times she flinched and tried to back away. Then she would let me pet her and just sat there calmly. Today, she actually started purring and rubbed my hand with her head! She still wouldn't come out from under the end table, but we are definitely showing progress.
Robin has accepted her presence far more quickly than I thought he would. When we had the kittens earlier, it took him several days to stop hissing at them, and even then he would still avoid them if possible. We got Róisín Wednesday morning and he'd stopped hissing by Wednesday evening. By Thursday he was actively, if warily, seeking her out. Now he often makes overtures, although she's still a little wary of him. Relations are a little hampered by the fact that he's too big to fit under the end table with her. I realise cats don't view "family" the same way we do, but they spent the first 3 1/2 months of their lives practically joined at the hip. You sometimes saw the third sibling by herself, but you never saw Robin without Róisín two steps behind him and vice versa. I have to wonder if on some subconcious level they don't recognise each other's smell as familiar in some way.
Anyway, I have high hopes that those two will re-bond nicely, and that Róisín will settle in more comfortably sometime soon.
