As some of you already know, I have three animals that I consider to be my totems, spirit guides, whatever term you want to use. Raven has the most influence, followed by Wolf and then Dolphin. When I got my first tattoo two years ago it was of a raven, and I searched long and hard for the perfect image. The idea was always to get one of each of my guides, but I knew that if I was going to put something on my body permanently, it had to be perfect, and they had to fit not only me and my relationship with them, but each other as well. After over a year of thinking and searching I found the raven image I wanted:

Just imagine that it's filled in black, and not just an outline, and that's what I have on my left shoulder. Since then, I've been searching for wolf and dolphin images that fit, and have had no luck. Until today. I think I've found my Wolf:

So, what do you think?

lovely! Where did you find them? Where will you put the wolf?

I found them both online. The raven was on a site with images of ravens from several different sources. The wolf is actually part of some company's logo. And since the raven is on my left shoulder, the wolf will go on my right shoulder.

I like them. I love how they are a single line that curves and bends on itself.

I'm still trying to figure out the ink I'm eventually going to get. I've thought about a moon with a wolf howling inside, but also want something nautical considering my profession and affinity to water. Too many choices and nothing has "spoken" to me yet. *le sigh*

The "speaking" part is important. I've seen hundreds of images of wolves, many of which I've liked, but this is the first one that "spoke" to me.

I like that you've chosen a sort of Celtic tribal theme to your tats, to keep them consistent. Nice choice for the wolf's head.

It does take a great deal of thought on what you want to put on your body; I have been pondering a tat that might incorporate my animal guides together in some way, perhaps a medicine wheel on my back.

Yeah, the consistency is important to me. Which is why it took so long to find the images. My original idea was to try to incorporate all three into one tattoo, but I couldn't make it work in a way that I liked, and when I found the raven image I knew it was meant to be.

Very nice! So many people, including me, end up random collections of artwork. Did you draw them yourself?

no, I have no drawing ability whatsoever. I found them both online, one on a clip art page, and the other as part of a company's logo.

I like the raven. I think with a little looking you might be able to find a better wolf. It's not as intricate as the raven, and doesn't seem to match in my eyes. It might just be that the wolf is colored in and the raven isn't... The wolf is very cool, though.

I want to get a rune wheel on my wrist, or inside my forearm, though I'm not sure what I want to get inside it. I need to be careful where I get it, though, because I'm not allowd to have visible tatoos at work. I had a vision, I guess you could call it, with a Thor's hammer tattoo stretched across a man's shoulders, with the haft running down the middle of the back. Ridiculously expensive, but i'd like to get it eventually. Maybe also something along the lines of a hawk on my shoulder.

The wolf isn't as intricate as the raven, true. But I think the fact that the raven image isn't coloured in (unlike my tattoo, which is) is a big part of why they don't seem to match.

I like the Thor's hammer across the back image. Very nice. I have to be careful too since having a visible tattoo would at the very least narrow my employment options.

You could always go to your artist, show them the raven, and ask if they could sketch out a wolf and a dolphin for you.

that's true as well. I might end up doing that for the dolphin, and maybe have the wolf altered a bit to make it a little more intricate.

I like the wolf tattoo, especially the self-similarity of it...
