So, this morning I drag myself out of bed even though I'm sick because today's the day we interview the candidate for the Engineering Librarian position, and I really feel I need to be there. Plus, I'm supposed to pick her up from her hotel (on campus) and take her to the library. I had dinner with her last night, and she seems nice enough.
Traffic was practically non-existant this morning, for some unknown reason, so instead of getting there just in the nick of time like I normally do, I'm 15 mins early. As I approach the library, I immediately realise something is wrong -- everyone's all crowded around the door. The library should be open at this point, so I walk up and notice a co-worker standing around and ask her what's going on.
Apparently, there was a break in last night. Someone threw a brick through the window, unlocked the door, and stole the machine that students use to add money to their printing card.
Let me repeat that. They stole the printing cash machine. This is a big machine, firmly attached to the wall. They ripped it right off. And apparently no one noticed a couple of people lugging around a cash machine.
So we all had to stand out in the cold (and it was actually cold this morning) while the police did their thing. This did nothing good for either my sciatica or my head cold.
Finally, several of us gave up and went off to get coffee. Then I had to go pick up the candidate, and by the time we got back, we were allowed to go in.
It was very interesting being on this side of the interview process, because it seems like just a little while ago that I was the one going through the interview itself. Now I'm the one doing some of the interviewing. Very cool.
And now, for something completely different and random -- why in the world do I sign emails to myself? I mean, if I'm emailing myself to remind me of something going on, or a song I want to download, or whathaveyou, I still sign my name at the bottom of the email. As if I wouldn't know it was me.
