So "Sahara" is on TV and it's turning out much better than I thought it would be. The thing I like best about it -- Steve Zahn in a role in which he's allowed to actually be competent. I love Steve Zahn, but he tends to play the bumbling comic relief. He's still the comic relief here, but damn! Ex-Navy, comfortable with weapons and machinery, pulls his own weight, saves the day, etc. He's great! And Penelope Cruz isn't too bad to look at either :)

(Oh, and on a side note, *why* must nearly every movie that includes priceless bits of history also include the *destruction* of priceless bits of history?!)

I thought Sahara was a lot better than it was widely given credit for.* It also had great music. McConoughey was kinda the weak point in it -- not because he did a bad job, but that he was uber-competent and a bit too smug.

* Then again, I enjoyed Ishtar.
