Chaos as YouTube ordered to turn over all user viewing histories

I hope I'm not about to get sued because I watch fan-made music videos utilising clips from tv shows that I'm sure were taken without permission. What kind of idiot judge thought this kind of thing was fair? Talk about your privacy violations. And I don't see any mention of safeguards to ensure that Viacom only uses the information with regard to their own stolen videos.

Oh, I'm sure that as Viacom watches the various snippets of "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" on YouTube and they see some uncredited sampling of other peoples' copyrighted work, they'll pony up the money to the original intellectual property holders.

Uh-huh. Sure. Yup yup yup.

meh...as I said on my journal:

"All I have to say is....prove it was me. Santa Claus and the easter bunny may have gotten on my computer, or the reincarnation of Elvis, and watching who knows what without my permission....and honestly? for FUCK'S SAKE PEOPLE, GET OVER IT. It is the age of the INTERNET. Your crappy tv shows would probably never be watched or known about if someone hadn't been told by a friend on the net that it was worth seeing. You broadcast this shit on TV for free, right? So what the HELL is your problem???? Just because I record it to a computer and watch it there instead of a video tape or a tivo, what the hell? How is this any different than a friend recording House or whatever and sending that tape to another friend who does not have TV to watch? What, because the commercials aren't there? You REALLY think people watch 30 minutes of commercials in an hour program? No....there is this little thing called FAST FORWARD.

I have said it so many times and I will say it again....I freaking hate greedy bastards. You're real money comes in from the sale of DVD's of of the seasons series. People in general are not content to just gank shit off the internet, the quality is low, it's a time consuming process and takes a lot of storage space. They may watch it, get a feel for whether they like it, and if they do, buy the DVD's....JUST LIKE THE PEOPLE WHO WATCH IT ON TV.

PULL YOUR HEAD, OUT OF YOUR ASS."

I am so not amused by the general posturing and squawking of corporate anything anymore. Stop screaming at people watching stuff on the internet, and umm...make things affordable instead of charging, what the hell did I see, over $100 for a single season of something? I think it's like 4 DVD's. Maybe eight hours of showtime, THAT WAS FREE ON A NETWORK AT SOME POINT. That's just greedy and stupid.

If my ex brother in law were forced to purchase the DVD of every single thing he has videotaped, he'd probably have to cough up near 90,000 bucks. The man runs 3 videotape machines on three different TV's ALL DAY LONG.

I'm not really too worried, honestly. I just find the whole thing distasteful in principle.
