I heard a story from Kevin Smith about his cameo (I haven't seen the movie yet). He said that Willis had wanted him to write the scene and that he'd get it okay'd with the producers. The producers read the scene as written by Smith and then called Smith and told him that they didn't want to use it.
Willis asked Smith if he'd heard anything, and when he said they'd rejected the script Willis said, "Hold on." He then got on the phone and what Kevin Smith heard was something like this:
"Hey... Yeah, did you read the script... Yeah... so, who is your number 2 choice to play John McClaine?"
Smith got his scene. He described the above as "such a pimp move".
yup, it was pretty much brainless fun, lots of shooting and explosions, pretty much just like every other Die Hard movie. I watched it while I was home sick yesterday. But Kevin Smith's part was brilliant, just cause it was Smith :)
