So this morning, I was getting ready for work, standing in front of the bathroom mirror and putting on my makeup. In the mirror I could see the hallway between the bedroom and the living room behind me. I hear a crash, and two kitten forms race one after the other from the living room to the bedroom. Another bang and some rustling and they race back the other direction. A thump or two, and once again the silhouettes race by. This happened two or three more times. It was dark in the hallway, so I couldn't tell who was chasing whom, but they were having a grand ole time.

Ok, one of the times I woke up in the middle of the night last night I saw one of the cutest things -- Ciara was curled up in her customary position right outside my door and Finnegan was curled up right next to her side. I almost didn't see him, because he's all black and Ciara's mostly black, but they looked so sweet all curled up together like that. Unfortunately I couldn't get to my camera before Finnegan got up to follow me around. It's really interesting -- the kittens are getting reactions out of the other cats I never thought I'd see. I've caught both Ciara and Siobhán of all people giving the kittens a tongue-bath. Very sweet.

I have a problem. My back hurts, and I'm hungry, and tired. I just want to eat, take a hot bath, and read for awhile before bed.

However, I have two kittens lying curled up next to each other on my chest purring their little hearts out, and to do any of those things, I'd have to make them move.

What a problem to have :)

EDIT: Make that three *g*

How can you possibly say no to that face? Yeah, decision pretty much made. Finnegan stays.

So Fiona was lying on my chest purring, when Finnegan came up. He immedaitely lay down on top of his sister and began to lick my face. Then he turned around and started licking *her* face. After awhile, her tail caught his attention so he started to pounce on it. This led to a brief wrestling match that concluded with Fiona licking Finnegan's face. Now Finnegan is licking my ear while Fiona is licking her own butt. And yes, all this took place on top of me.

Ah, the cuteness. It won't stop! I'm in danger though. Fergus is still pretty standoffish, but Finnegan has taken to this people thing like a fish to water. I'm starting to get attached. Seven isn't really *that* much more than six, is it? And it's such a wonderfully significant number . . .

To give you a size comparison, this is Fiona eating out of a standard cat food can. It's really hard to get pictures of the kittens. Even when they're eating they're still moving:

But with great patience, it can be done. So here is Fergus:

Fiona:

and Finnegan:

Eventually of course, they do have to sleep:

And in the spirit of oddities, I give you Ghost Robin:

Even more squee-worthy cuteness abounds at My Flickr Page.

And of course, anyone in Louisiana (or willing to drive here) Fergus and Finnegan are looking for homes. Please someone take them before I end up keeping them.

Ooh, look! After 4 days I can finally post to my journal again. That was an annoying bug.

So, weekend. And no, I haven't seen Pirates yet because I'm waiting for later in the week when it won't be so crowded. So no spoilers, please.

In other news, momma-cat was successfully returned to the wild after being spayed. The other two kittens have now come inside to join Fiona, because they were all sad outside and they need to be socialised more if I'm going to find them homes. Of course they are now named. The grey tabby is Fergus and the black one is Finnegan. I have attempted to get more pictures this weekend, so I'll upload them tomorrow and see how they turn out.

Not my fault!

So on Friday, I. calls saying basically, 'there's a momma cat and four kittens in my yard, help!'. So of course, what else can I do? All four kittens and momma fell surprisingly easily for the trap, one after the other, and after only about 2 hours I had all five. Right now, they're staying in the storage area off my balcony -- it's closed in, carpeted, and generally a nice little place to keep them comfortable without setting them loose in the apartment. Momma cat is way too feral to be a house pet, so she's just going to get spayed and set free again on the 20th, which is when the vet med school does their cheap spay/neuter days.

Of the kittens, there were two pure black males, one grey tabby male, and one calico tabby female. I'm keeping the female (big surprise). S. took one of the black males as a birthday present for a friend of hers, and I'm trying to convince her to take the other black male for herself. That leaves the grey tabby male still needing a home. The kittens are about 6-7 weeks old and so *very* cute. The female kitten will purr for me already, but the grey tabby has an attitude on him. He's clearly the leader of the group and hisses at me non-stop whenever I go in to take care of them. He doesn't bite or scratch, he just sits there hissing and spitting. It's actually rather cute now, but hopefully he'll calm down or I'll never find him a home.

In good news, Áine has found a home with some folks who will be picking her up this weekend, so with the addition of the new kitten, the net total of cats that are mine will still remain at 6. For now :)

In other news, I've agreed to volunteer some time with one of the cat rescue groups in town. If I'm going to be doing it anyway, I might as well have support :)
