Book #69 -- Cate Tiernan, The Coven (Sweep #2), 185 pages.

Talk about your fast read. I read this one in under 3 hours while unable to sleep last night. It's better than the first, or perhaps I've just increased my suspension of disbelief and forgiven the historical inaccuracies better. The plot's also picking up, and this one ends on that staple of teen series lit -- the cliffhanger. So of course I shall be ordering the next one today through ILL.

I'm staying home today. My sciatica has been particularly bad lately, and for the past few days the pain has *not stopped*. Even the Vicodin and Percocet aren't helping much. I'm going to stay home and rest in the hopes that maybe a little TLC will help break the cycle.

There is not enough room on my bed for me and four cats. And yet they insist.

Putting in my contacts with cats around is a dangerous thing. They're endlessly curious as to what I'm holding on my finger and they love to lick at the cleaning solution (which is essentially just saline). Trying to put in the contact with one hand and fend them off with the other does not make it easy. One of these days I swear one of them's going to eat a contact.

I really wish my postal carrier came earlier in the day. I'm lucky if she makes it here by 5pm when the door to the package room closes. Today I'm expecting a DVD from Netflix I'd love to be able to watch while I'm stuck horizontal for the day.

When your kitten decides that your belly button ring is a shiny new toy for him to play with.

Ow.

I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps I'm actually unusually sensitive to wintergreen oil. Do other people have the same pain/pleasure reaction to aspercreme and such as I do?

I use it because it helps with the sciatica. As the muscles around the tumour are in a nearly constant state of tension, anything that makes the muscles relax helps. So generally when it gets bad, I rub a little aspercreme on it.

As a general rule, my skin feels like it's on fire at the same time that my muscles are going 'aaaaaaahhh gooood'

Makes for a very weird feeling. After a few minutes the skin on fire thing usually goes away and I am left with the 'aaaaaaahhh gooood' but for those few minutes the conflict is disconcerting to say the least.
